AFC Mansfield 1-2 Garforth Town: Match Report

Saturday 9th April 15:00 KO

The Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division

AFC Mansfield 1

Garforth Town 2

AFC Mansfield fell to a disappointing defeat to one of the division's leading sides Garforth Town.

The Bulls ended the season with an injury-stricken squad, giving opportunities to a number of youngsters, with next season already in mind for Phil Buxton's side.

A front three of Alfie Dodsworth, Luke Walker and Jack Gibb caused problems early on, with both Dodsworth and Gibb seeing huge opportunities to take the league denied by goalkeeper Toby Wells.

James Burgess has led the Garforth line this campaign and looked to force the breakthrough, as a deep cross was volleyed towards goal but Adam Revuelta was on hand to smother his effort.

Heading into the second half, AFC continued to threaten the goal, as Dodsworth snuck in behind the defence and raced through on goal, but a bobble on the pitch saw the attacker's strike rise over the bar.

But with the Bulls piling on the pressure following another Gibb chance, Garforth took the lead. A long-distanced shot from Charlie Marshall saw Revuelta seemingly grasp the ball, but the onrushing Hass Gorji raced in and bundled the ball over the line, and amid the controversy, a goal was given.

Gorji wasn't done either, after a long searching ball found the substitute, who cheekily chipped the ball over Revuelta to extend the vistitor's advantage to two goals.

The Bulls did nick a consolation goal through Kacper Rajter, as Dodsworth's free-kick was spilled by the goalkeeper and nodded home from close-range.

Everyone at AFC Mansfield would like to thank the supporters for their excellent continued support, and we'll see you all next season!
