PREVIEW | Rainworth MW (H)

Updated: Sep 13, 2019

It's a quick return to cup football as AFC entertain local rivals Rainworth Miners Welfare in what is expected to be an entertaining battle at the Forest Town Arena.

Matt Chatfield's side host Rainworth in the Second Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Vase, after defeating Graham Street Prims in the opening round.

Should the Bulls succeed, they will need to win in a further seven rounds to reach the final on the hallowed Wembley turf.

Last Time Out

It was a night of mixed emotions on Tuesday evening, as hosts Handsworth came from behind to take a draw at Sandy Lane.

Ross Duggan turned and rifled home on just 11 minutes to net his 15th goal of the season, before debutant Jack Warner, a new arrival from Heanor Town, fired low underneath Handsworth 'keeper Townsend to double his new side's lead.

But a young Ambers side refused to budge over, and striker Luke Francis scored two second half volleys to drag the hosts back into the contest and earn a well deserved point.

The Opposition

Though Saturday's contestants haven't faced each other in a league game for two years, they met last season in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round, when AFC were victorious in a close affair at the Forest Town Arena which ended 1-0.

Rainworth will be searching for their first win of the season having drawn three and lost three of their six opening East Midlands Counties League fixtures, and for revenge for last season's cup exit.

Team News

Having avoided a start on Tuesday night despite looking more likely, Jordan Annable is expected to return to the helm for the cup clash.

Meanwhile, Ben Potter remains sidelined whilst Luke Walker is also unavailable for selection.
