PREVIEW | Hemsworth MW (A)

It's the beginning of a busy few weeks of non-stop midweek football as AFC travel to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

The Bulls hope to build on a 2-1 Buildbase FA Vase win over Hanley Town after a short stint of poor form, having not won a league game since the 2-0 home victory against Eccleshill United back in mid-August.

Matt Chatfield's side could move as high as 11th in the NCEL Premier Division with a victory, with still one or two games in hand over teams around them.

Subject to clearance from a pitch inspection, kick-off is scheduled for 7:45pm.

Last Time Out

Saturday provided an entertaining afternoon of FA Vase football, with ten-man AFC came from behind to dump Hanley Town out of the cup competition in the final minute of extra time.

Nicky Darker's red card and consequent penalty set up a mountain to climb, and despite Dylan Parkin palming the penalty wide Town eventually went ahead two minutes later through Martin Stayner.

But the Bulls kept fighting and their hard work paid off when substitute Jack Warwick flicked Jamie McGuire's long ball perfectly into the path of Ross Duggan, who laced the ball into the far corner with six minutes of normal time remaining.

Extra time provided a ten-versus-ten contest with Josh Thorpe dismissed at the end of normal time, and Duggan was the cup hero once again as he squeezed home a 120th minute winner.

The Opposition

Hemsworth have enjoyed a strong start to their league campaign so far, sitting in fifth position in the NCEL Premier Division.

A heavy 4-0 defeat to Grimsby Borough at the weekend put an end to a strong run of form, but the Wells' 100% home winning record remains firmly intact ahead of the Bulls' visit to the Springfield Training MDC Stadium.

Hemsworth will also be looking to avenge their late 2-1 defeat to AFC which occurred the last time the two sides met on the Wells' home turf.

Team News

Two new signings could potentially make the Tuesday night squad if paperwork goes through, whilst defender Cameron Hough is doubtful but not completely ruled out after coming off with an injury on Saturday.
