Bulls defeated in opening fixture

Match Review: Sleaford Town (H)

It wasn't the start that manager Phil Buxton was looking for in yesterday's 2-0 home defeat against Sleaford Town.

AFC Mansfield conceded inside 60 seconds when the Bulls failed to clear a long throw, which found the head of Sleaford's Charlie Ward who directed his header into the Bulls net.

Sleaford controlled most of the first half and were rewarded with a second goal around the 30th-minute mark.

Sleaford's Finlay Armond found the net with a well-timed header beating keeper Adam Revuelta. The Bulls made an early change due to the injury of Jack Cockram with 16-year-old Luke Cullen coming on.

AFC Mansfield tried to get a goal back before halftime with Matty McBride hitting a powerful shot which unfortunately sailed over the bar.

The second half proved to be a better half for the Bulls having most of the possession, Joe Harrison's freekick was cleared off the line causing trouble for Sleaford's backline.

Another injury in the defensive area in the second half as Adam Bratley was taken off following a lengthy injury break.

The Bulls had one more chance on goal before the final whistle in added time when the ball lands at the feet of Joe Harrison, but he fires a shot just over the bar.
