Ward: It was a perfect start for me

New boss Mark Ward hailed his side for a "perfect start" to his reign at the Forest Town Arena.

The Bulls comfortably beat Loughborough Dynamo in a scintillating 3-0 triumph, thanks to a treble from front man Ollie Fearon and some inspirational defending.

"It was like the perfect start for me," Ward said after the game, "it's been hard this week in trying to get players across the line and worrying about today.

"It was a difficult decision (to take the job), the gaffer has done a lot for me but I felt like I couldn't turn this opportunity down, so I'll give it my all and see what happens."

The result marks a significant turnaround since last time out, as the Bulls were thrashed by Dynamo by the same goal margin just two weeks previously.

"I just tried to exert positivity and encouragement, and to avoid beating myself up and beating them up.

"Today they gave me absolutely everything and I couldn't ask for more."

Ollie Fearon's hat-trick totalled his scoring tally up to five goals this season since rejoining the club, and the gaffer believes it will be a crucial confidence boost for the striker: "Over the last 18 months that I've worked with him, I've probably wanted more from him. Sometimes I try to push people too far instead of let them be who they are.

"I told him to get back to the Ollie Fearon that Rudy Funk signed from Penistone - just a raw, hungry, happy lad - and to express himself.

"I don't know if it's luck or if it's hard work, I'm just happy that it's paid off.

"We're all buzzing, so hopefully we can carry on in the right direction."
