REPORT | Bulls 0-0 Maltby Main

The shares were spoiled in an uneventful game under the lights as AFC and in-form Maltby played out a bore draw at the Forest Town Arena.

Whilst the tie rarely offered a chance of note, the visitors had a handful of potential winning opportunities late on, but neither side could snatch all the points.

Though both sides started the contest with smart on-the-floor football, the first 20 minutes provided no real opening bar a 20-yard free-kick for AFC, which Duggan fired against the Maltby wall.

An opening then finally arose as Main striker Gavin Allott struck the woodwork twice, fed through cleverly by Richard Patterson but unable to ripple the net from ten yards out.

Ironically as a first half devoid of chances drew to a close, the visitors had the ball in the net in peculiar style, but the referee came to AFC's rescue and blew for a foul.

The second half struggled to provide much more entertainment for the 68 spectators in attendance, with the Bulls only coming up with half-chances as Duggan's whipped cross was slightly too high for Luke Walker before Luke James saw his 20-yard effort blocked.

But as a goalless stalemate looked more and more likely, two chances came within two late minutes for the visitors, as Connor Cutts and Steven Hopewell both dragged wide of Hugo Warhurst's back post from a favourable angle deep inside the Bulls penalty area.

Rory Coleman's injury-time free-kick proved to be the final opportunity, shooting at a comfortable height for Warhurst to gather before the whistle was blown for a long awaited full-time.

The draw keeps AFC in 16th position in the NCEL Premier Division, as a point was not enough to catch up with 15th-placed Handsworth.

AFC return to action on Saturday afternoon, with a tough trip to promotion hopefuls Penistone Church on the horizon.
