The gaffer had no complaints after AFC were well beaten by promotion-chasing Brighouse Town at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium, and assured that the defeat was no confidence killer.
"At the end of the day they put us to the sword," Funk said after the game, "you can see why they are where they are in the league."
"We have to learn from it, regroup and see where we can improve – that’s what I think this season is all about for us.
"As we came off the pitch, the Brighouse lads complimented us and told us to keep doing what we're doing. The lads are fighters and I’m sure we’ll come through."
Assistant manager Mark Ward felt that his side needs to learn to "hurt" teams in order to get results.
"It's frustrating because the lads are working hard, but you have to hurt them. All the lads worked hard today but I don't think we hurt them with our work rate.
"I'm a big believer in end product, it's pointless doing all the runs and tricks if you're not going to get a cross in or a finish."
