Bulls secure Sykes deal

Preparations for next season have taken another positive stride with the capture of forward Matt Sykes.

The 28-year-old signs a one-year deal at the Forest Town Arena with promotion experience under his belt from his time at Worksop Town, where he played alongside fellow returning Bulls player Lynton Karkach.

Sykes scored 32 goals in all competitions for the Tigers in 2018/19, securing the NCEL Premier Division and League Cup titles in a memorable campaign for the club.

After leaving Worksop to play closer to home, he then spent the 2019/20 season at AFC's Premier Division rivals Yorkshire Amateur, scoring nine in 18 appearances before eventually making the move to Forest Town.

The forward, who also had a brief spell in Forest Town during the summer of 2017, said AFC's ambition was what convinced him to turn down other clubs and sign on with the Bulls.

"Out of everyone I spoke to, AFC came across as the most positive, plus I know a few of the lads which I feel is important to helping me settle in," he said.

"I'm really delighted to get the deal over the line.

"I spoke to the manager and his enthusiasm and ambition for the team was brilliant," he added, "together with the Chairman I think they will be brilliant people to play for."
